Samoa - Rise Up is a non-profit support group based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. We focus our efforts on raising funds for those affected by poverty, poverty of opportunity and natural disasters in Samoa.
A significant number of families experience hardship from poverty of opportunity, such as -
- lack of access to basic services
- lack of resources to meet basic household needs and customary obligations to family, village, community and church
- lack of opportunites to actively participate in socioeconomic life of the village
Our aim is to raise funds to be spent in the Samoan economy (not in Australia) to help allieviate hardship in these areas.
Ways we can help are:
- School tuition and education supplies for children
- Food supplies
- Farming supplies
- Building supplies
Many of us take for granted the islands of Samoa and its natural beauty and the hospitality of its people - particularly as a holiday destination. Samoa's people have taken many blows over the last decade, with natural disasters and challenges, changing the way of life for the villagers. The recent earthquake and tsunami in September 2009 has impacted the country beyond belief, increasing our need to raise much needed funds to help those who have lost their homes, loved ones and incomes.
